Can’t wait for all the delicious Thanksgiving food coming your way this month? Me either! But it means I’m already thinking about how to manage all the details of family visits, meal prep, and entertainment. Living in beautiful South Florida means many families are traveling here to enjoy the warm days and cool nights. Not to worry, if you are in Tampa, everything can easily be covered!
The Tampa Bay Times Turkey Trot is a great start with a friendly family competition. The Thanksgiving Day events truly have something for every age, 5K, 10K, fun run, and the Clearwater Challenge. All proceeds benefit local charities and you’ll be in beachy, breezy Clearwater enjoying the day before the hectic cooking begins!
If you’ve got older kids, bring them to the George M. Steinbrenner Field in the Westshore District and give back on Thanksgiving Day. The Billy Burke Miracle Network is giving away 2,000 turkeys and the fixings to the needy in our community. It’s a great way to truly show our thanks when we give to others.
If you are feeling ambitious, take the family to Busch Gardens. Enjoy the thrilling rides and still get a traditional meal at the Crown Colony restaurant. Just make sure to give your food time to settle before trying their new family coaster, Cobra’s Curse! I tried it last weekend and it’s awesome!
Too tired to cook now? Head to Ybor City to the historic Columbia Restaurant. They’re serving turkey and a secret family recipe for traditional Columbian stuffing. Make reservations and I’ll see you there.
